How to install the MARAFW?
The installation procedure depends on the control board used on the miner:
- Xilinx, AMLogic (AML), BeagleBone (BB) and CVctrl control boards can be installed over-the-air (OTA). Simply download MARATools and the MARATools Firmware Package from our websites and follow the instructions in the MARATools Guide section of the documentation.
- SD card installation is available for Xilinx and BeagleBone control boards. In order to proceed with the installation, follow the guide here.
Note: Due to hardware limitations of the CVctrl control boards, a specialized MaraCV card is required to be installed on the control board first, before continuing with the installation. Alternatively, an OTA installation can be performed, but each miner hard reboot will restore the stock firmware. For large installations the MARAFW team can provide an automated solution for reinstallation after a hard reboot is detected.
How to identify the control board used on a miner?
The control boards can be identified through BTC Tools and physically by looking at the miner:
- AML - MicroUSB port on the front panel
- Zynq - SD card slot on the front panel, no stickers on the top lid
- CVctrl - SD card slot on the front panel, sticker “CV1835” on the top lid
- BB - front panel without an SD slot nor MicroUSB port
How fast is the installation?
The speed of the installation depends on the connectivity. Usually it takes a couple of minutes per machine, but the installation can be run simultaneously on multiple devices at once.
How to check the FW version and perform an update?
-
The FW version can be found at the top of the dashboard, through BTC Tools or Foreman.
-
To manually update the FW, drag-and-drop the update FW image through the dashboard or in bulk, using the Foreman’s or BTC Tools’s update option.
-
Latest FW version can be checked and downloaded from the MARAFW Download Center.
How to uninstall MARAFW
In case an issue was encountered, please contact us first as the MARA Team might be able to help solve the issues. Otherwise, to uninstall the MARAFW either remove the SD card or flash a stock firmware over the MARAFW installation. This can be done manually using the MARAFW dashboard, using MARATools or other popular tools like BTC Tools. The MARACV board does not have to be detached (in case of the CVctrl control boards).
The miner refuses to run MARAFW from an SD card, what to do?
Because of HW limitations of the control boards, the SD card capacity has to be below 16GB and flashed using tools like Rufus or Balena Etcher. If the problem still persists even after trying a different SD card, contact our support team.
Can I run stock FW on the MARACB?
The MARACB does not support stock firwmare at this moment, although it is planned to be supported in the future.
